Christine Saul Hammond, 85, of Roanoke, died peacefully on Sunday, August 21, 2005, in a local hospital after a courageous battle. She was the widow of Jacob Carlyle Hammond and was predeceased by two brothers, Posey Saul and William Saul and two sisters, Emily Flora and Mary Flora.
Born January 12, 1920, in Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late John A. and Eliza Webb Saul. Mrs. Hammond was a longtime member of Williamson Road Church of the Brethren. She was an active member of the Golden Colonels Alumni of William Fleming High School.
A devoted mother and grandmother, who doted on her grandchildren, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Wayne Cramer of Daleville; sons and daughter-in-law, David and Velvet Hammond and Phillip Hammond, all of Roanoke; seven grandchildren, Neal Cramer, Erika C. Schweitzer and husband James, Lindsey Cramer, Scott Hammond, Stacey Hammond Beard, Warren Hammond and Richie Asher Hammond; two great-grandchildren, Lyle and Lauren; a brother, John A. Saul, Jr.; two sisters, Lois Sheets and Polly Flora; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Williamson Road Church of the Brethren, 3110 Pioneer Road, Roanoke, Va. 24012. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at Williamson Road Church of the Brethren. Pastor Judy Mills Reimer will officiate. Interment will be in Mill Creek Cemetery, Botetourt County. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday August 22, 2005, at Oakey's North Chapel, 362-1237.
