OBITUARY

June Elizabeth Payne, 91, of Warrenton, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2012 at the Blue Ridge Christian Home in Bealeton. She was born in Lookout, KY on June 27, 1920 to Robert D. and Mary M. Tate. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Tate, and sister, Faye Henderson.

June attended Concord College in West Virginia and V.P.I in Blacksburg, VA. She was a member of Warrenton United Methodist Church and the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Women.

June is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 70 years, John Wood Payne, daughter, Sue Payne Kenworthy of Fairfax, and son, Larry D. Payne and wife Sandra of Hume; grandchildren Emily K. Loving and Jason D. Payne both of Hume; great-grandchildren Riley and Mackenzie Loving, and Madeline Linthicum. Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Phyllis Tate of Christiansburg, VA and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 2, from 10:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM at Moser Funeral Home, 233 Broadview Ave. Warrenton, VA. 20186. Interment will be in Orlean Cemetery.

OBITUARY

Radford News Journal, 29 Aug 1961

Robert D. Tate, Jr, a 38 year old Blacksburg man, was found dead yesterday in a recreation parlor of the Blacksburg Fire Station, from a bullet wound. According to Dr. R.H. Grubbs, the medical examiner, the bullet which killed Tate was apparently self-inflicted. Grubbs said no reason for the suicide had been found. The shooting occurred between 12:30 and 1 a.m. Monday (8/28/1961). Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Hale Tate, daughters Patricia Leigh Tate and Mary Ruth Tate, of Blacksburg, one son, Robert H. Tate; his mother, Mrs. Mary Moore Tate, two sisters Mrs. R.W. Henderson of Blacksburg, and Mrs. J.W. Payne, Warrenton. Funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Blacksburg Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Garden. The body will be taken from the Jones Funeral Home to the church at 2 p.m.
