OBITUARY

SWORDS CREEK, Va. - Mrs. Emma Elizabeth McGlothlin, age 82, passed away Friday, June 27, 2003, at her home. Born March 5, 1921, in Buchanan County, Va., she was a daughter of the late Noah and Dovie Sanders Shortridge. A lifelong resident of the Buchanan and Russell county areas, she was a member of the Fletcher Ridge Primitive Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larkin McGlothlin; one daughter, Betty Rose; one son, Teddy McGlothlin; two sisters, Mary Haggerman and Margaret Childress; and five brothers, Roy Shortridge, Ira Shortridge, Henry Shortridge, Luther Shortridge and Carl Shortridge.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Anna McGlothlin of Swords Creek and James and Geneva McGlothlin of Honaker; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Phillip Herndon, Kathy and Danny Crutchfield and Opal and David Gildart, all of Swords Creek; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Chester and Myrtle McGlothlin of Council, Va.; three sisters, Virgie Taylor of Abingdon, Sylvia Wilson of Roanoke and Julie Gonzalez of California; one brother, George Shortridge of Rowe, Va.; nine grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Elder Franklin Viers and Elder Price Viers officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Steven Herndon, Phillip Herndon, Keith Richardson, Garland Shortridge, Bilford Shortridge and Darrell McGlothlin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Richardson and Herman McGlothlin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Fletcher Ridge Primitive Baptist Church. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Carol Messick and Hospice and Palliative Care of Grundy. Friends may call at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Saturday.

Mrs. Betty Jean Rose, 31, died Monday evening in a Lebanon, Va. hospital following a brief illness.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Rose; one daughter, Glenda Jean Rose; one son, Bobby Carl Rose; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Larkin McGlothlin, Swords Creek; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Herndan and Miss Opal McGlothlin, both of Swords Creek, and Mrs. Kathy Hess, Rowe, Va., three brothers, Chester McGlothlin, Venia, Va., Arthur McGlothlin, Swords Creek, and James Milfred McGlothlin, Honaker; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Dove Shortridge, Mavisdale, Va.

Mrs. Dorothy Laura McGlothlin Herndon, age 55 of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2005 in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. Born September 27, 1949 in Rowe, Virginia she was the daughter of the late Larkin David & Emma Shortridge McGlothlin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Dovie Sanders Shortridge & Noah Shortridge; her paternal grandparents, Vinie Ray McGlothlin & Jake McGlothlin; & one sister, Betty Jean Rose.

She is survived by her husband, Philip Herndon; two sons, Philip Herndon & wife Connie of Iaeger, WV, Steve Herndon of Swords Creek; one daughter, Elizabeth Herndon of Johnson City, TN; two granddaughters, Tarra Mullins of Iaeger, WV & Rhiannon Proffitt of Richlands; three great grandchildren, Megan & Grace Mullins both of Iaeger, WV & Jacob Proffitt of Richlands; two brothers, Arthur McGlothlin of Swords Creek & Milfred McGlothlin of Honaker; one step brother, Chester McGlothlin of Council; two sisters, Kathy Crutchfield & Opal Gildart both of Swords Creek; special friend, Debbie Carter; many special relatives & friends also survive.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Friday, April 15, 2005 at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia with Pastor Darrell Long officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia.
