She was born on February 15, 1922 in Lee County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Richard H. Carter and Ida McKinnley Pearson.

She is survived by one son, Carter Ray Doyle of Durham, NC.; one sister, Trudy Carter Collins of Front Royal, VA.; and two grandchildren, Patrick Ray Doyle and Mary Lynn Doyle.
