He planted holly tree that still stands outside of the Johnson home place in Buckingham Co. called Locust Grove.

He died of wounds received at the Battle of Malvern Hill. His sister, Sallie, nursed in him Richmond after his leg amputation. He died of gangrene.

This land became known as the "MEADOR HOME TRACT", and was sold on September 24, 1904 by WYATT S. MEADOR and his children, to WILLIAM A. SILVERY of Dillwyn, Virginia.
