    Oral Giddens

    Oral I. Giddens, 83, of 2733 W. Montana died at 2:25 p.m. Sunday at his home.

    Born Oct-31.1898 in Eldon, Mo., to Thomas R. and Mary K. Allen Giddens, he married Sally May Edwards Dec. 24, 1918, in Kansas City, Kan. She died Nov. 16.1973 in Peoria.
    A Peoria resident since 1967, he formerly owned a restaurant in Kansas City.

    Surviving are four sons, Lory of East Peoria, Almon of Houston, Mo., Richard and Jerry, both of Kansas City; two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Mary) Whitaker and Mrs. Phil (JoAnn) Risley, both of Jacksonville. Fla.; and one sister, Mrs. Irma Ghosey of Kansas City. Two sons, two
    daughters, four brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

    Services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Davison-Fulton Western Chapel, the Rev. John Stanley officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel, and burial will be in Snicarte Cemetery, near
    Bath, with graveside services at 2 p.m.

    OBITUARY

    Hilger H. Giddens was born in Eldon March 15, 1909 & spent practically all of his life in the community where he was well liked & favorably known, he died in a hospital in Kansas City Nov. 21, 1942. The body was brought here from Kansas City & lay in state at the Kays funeral home until Sunday afternoon at 2:00 O'clock when the funeral service was held at the Eldon Baptist Church by the Pastor Rev. C.E. Hendricks.

    Aug. 1, 1928 Mr. Giddens was married to Miss Gladys Wright in Kansas City. To them two children were born, Eileen & Gen, who along with Mrs. Giddens his companion survive. He is also survived by three brothers, Curtis & Oral Giddens of Kansas City & Clarence Giddens of Jefferson City, & his two sisters Viola Long of Crocker, Mo. & Miss Emma Giddens of Kansas City.

    About 12 years ago, Mr. Giddens was converted, became a member of the Eldon Baptist Church, lived a consecrated christian life, & member of the church until his death. When he realized the end of his life was near, he testified that he was ready to go & revealed at one time he believed he was called to preach. Interment was made at the Allen Cemetery.

    Erma E. Ghosey, 95, of DeSoto, KS, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at Hillside Village Nursing Home. Erma is survived by her son and his wife, Lowell and Teresa Ghosey, Olathe, KS, two granddaughters, Lauren Bradley, Tulsa, OK, and Morgan Ghosey, Olathe, KS.

    Lucille G. Harbison died June 13, 1987 in the state of California where she had been living. She was born Jan. 26, 1915 in Miller County to Clarence and Vada Giddens Harbison.

    Surviving her are a brother, Chester Harbison of Kansas City, Kan., and a son, Ed Spencer of Los Angeles, Calif.

    Graveside services will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at 1 p.m. Saturday. Memorial services were held in California last Saturday.

    EAST PEORIA -- Lory I. Giddens, 74, of Far Hills died at 10:59 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 1994, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

    Born Oct. 9, 1919, in Eldon, Mo., to Oral and Sally Edwards Giddens, he married Margaret W. Sarff on Jan. 14, 1941, in Keokuk, Iowa. She survives.

    Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Lynn (Sandra) Tripp of Peoria; one son, Curtis Lory of Peoria; three brothers, Almon of Houston, Mo., Richard of Kansas City, Kan., and Jerry of Parsons, Kan.; two sisters, Mary Whitaker and Jo Ann Risley, both of Kansas City, Kan.; and three grandchildren. Two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

    He was a manager of installation and training in the manufacturing systems in the general offices of Caterpillar Inc., retiring in 1978. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of the Creve Coeur Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.

    He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Peoria and its J.O.Y. Class. He also was a member of Caterpillar Retirees Club, where he served as former treasurer, and Caterpillar Time Keepers Club.

    Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at his church. The Rev. Dr.

    John H. Stanley will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m.

    Monday at Cumerford-Endsley Memorial Home in Peoria. Burial will be in Snicarte Cemetery in Bath. Richard S. Wilton, funeral director through Cumerford-Endsley, is in charge of arrangements.

    Memorials may be made to his church or to West Bluff Christian Church in West Peoria or to Germantown Hills Rescue Squad.

    Almon Deliot Giddens, 86, son of Oral and Sally Edwards Giddens, was born April 4, 1921, at Eldon. He died March 9, 2008, at Texas County Memorial Hospital.

    He married Delta Sillyman Jan. 16, 1943, in Kansas City, Kan. They had three children.

    Mr. Giddens was a World War II veteran, serving in Germany. He enjoyed cooking for the officers.

    He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 32 years as a supervisor in the accounting department.

    After retiring, he was a cook at the Houston Senior Center.

    He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

    Mr. Giddens was a member of the Bucyrus Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and taught the men's Sunday School classes for several years. He also enjoyed cooking at the First Baptist and Bucyrus Baptist churches.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sisters, Coral May and Mary Whitaker; two brothers, Lory and Richard Giddens; and a grandson.

    Surviving are his children, Larry Giddens and Lloyd Giddens of Houston and Joyce Topper of Peoria, Ill.; one brother, Jerry Giddens of Parson, Kan.; a sister, Jo Ann Risley of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

    Services are 10 o'clock today (Thursday) at the Bucyrus Baptist Church with the Rev. Gordon Rhodes and the Rev. Brock Davis officiating. Burial is in the Boone Creek Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.

    Giddens, Richard L.

    Richard L. Giddens, 72, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away July 5, 2006, at the Providence Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at Maple Hill Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

    Mr. Giddens was born July 1, 1934, in Eldon, Missouri, and had lived in Kansas City, Kansas, for most of his life. Richard was a Processor for the IRS for several years retiring in 1989. He was a Korean war Veteran. Survivors include son Richard J. Giddens, Kansas City, Kan.; daughters Diana and husband Donald Stakley, of the home, and Sharon Hernandez, Edgerton, Kan.; brothers Jerry Giddens, Parsons, Kan., and Al Giddens, Houston, Mo.; sister JoAnn Risley, Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.     PEORIA - Curtis Lory Giddens, 67, of Peoria passed away Friday, May 23, 2014, at his residence.

    He was born Jan. 23, 1947, in Peoria to Lory I. and Margaret (Sarff) Giddens. He was married to Anne (Hoehne) Giddens. She survives.

    Also surviving are his mother; his sister, Sandra Tripp of Peoria; daughter, Laurie (Paul) Larsen of Dunlap; son, Robert (Tara) Giddens of Bartonville; daughter, Julie (Dan) Fitzpatrick of Singapore; two stepdaughters, Teresa (Ali) Amer of Dubai and Stephanie (Randy) Shults of Pekin; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.

    Curtis graduated from Peoria Central High School and served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Curtis retired from Caterpillar in 2002, after 38 years of service. His passions were golf and fishing and he always lit up a room with his sense of humor.

    Visitation will be Wednesday, May 28, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Davis-Fulton Woodland Chapel, 2021 N. University St., in Peoria. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria, following the service.

    Memorials may be directed to The American Heart Association, The Peoria Cancer Center and the Limestone Fire Department.

    A memorial service will be held Nov. 6 for Kenneth Brian "Ken" Giddens of Santa Rose, Calif., formerly of Junction City, who died Oct. 30 of complications from Marfan syndrome. He was 46.

    Giddens was born June 17, 1959, in Hawthorne, Calif., to Gene and Virginia Giddens. He married Allyn Biggs in Santa Rosa on June 9, 1989.

    He was a 1977 graduate of Junction City High School and attended Oregon State University in Corvallis.

    He served in the United States Air Force from 1977 to 1981.

    He enjoyed raising abandoned greyhound racers. He was a member of the Assistance Dog Institute and the Golden State Greyhound Adoption organization.

    Survivors include his wife; his mother and stepfather, Virginia and Huibert Paul of Springfield; a stepson, Eli Awtrey of Moscow, Idaho; a stepdaughter, Meg Awtrey of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; and two brothers, Charles of Coburg and Gary of Junction City. His father died previously.

    Sunday's service will be held at 5 p.m. in Santa Rosa. The Neptune Society in Santa Rosa is in charge of arrangements.
