    Freeman Rice

    Freeman Rice was born in Ohio, November 25, 1830, died January 12, 1919, at the age of 88 years, 1 month, 17 days.
    He moved to Indiana in childhood and lived there till he was married. He moved to Missouri in 1869.

    His family consisted of five boys and three girls of which one of the daughters, Mrs. Anna Edwards and three sons, E.C. Rice of Evergreen, Colorado, H.E. Rice of Cameron, Missouri and M.E. Rice of Dixon, Illinois, still remain.
    Mr. Rice has been living here with his daughter, Mrs. Edwards at the hotel where he died Sunday. Twenty-nine grandchildren also survive him.

    The remains were taken to Cameron, Missouri, Tuesday, accompanied by Mrs. Edwards and H.E. Rice for burial. The family has the sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement.

    MRS. ANNA EDWARDS DIED YESTERDAY

    Funeral Services Today at the Baptist Church
    Mrs. Anna Rice Edwards, 82 years old, since 1879 a resident of Canton, passed away at the home of her grandson, Warren Edwards, in Wichita, yesterday morning following a long illness. The funeral will be held this afternoon, 2 o'clock at the Canton Baptist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Harry Burden. Interment will be made in the Canton cemetery.

    Canton chapter of Eastern Star of which she was a charter member will have charge of the service at the cemetery.
    Mrs. Edwards was a native of Indiana. She was born at Westville. On October 19, 1873 she was married to John W. Edwards at Fairbury, Nebr. She was the mother of three sons: Floyd, and Arvin Willis, both deceased; and Charles M. Edwards of Wichita, and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Fay Champlin.

    She was a member of the Christian church, Order of Eastern Star and Past Matrons club. She was a charter member of the Canton chapter of Eastern Star and a past worthy matron.

    Mr. and Mrs. Edwards came to Canton to enter the hotel business. They moved the old hotel from north of the Rock Island tracks and joined it onto another building which made the present Canton Hotel. After her husband's death, Mrs. Edwards operated the hotel for a number of years.
    "Grandmother" Edwards, as she was affectionately known to many in the community, had a wide circle of neighbors and friends who sorrow at her death.

    MRS. WALLACE SMITH

    Resident of Fremont for Many Years Answers Final Call

    After an illness of about two years, Mrs. Wallace Smith, wife of a well-known North Western engineer, died at a hospital in Omaha last evening at 5:10. Mrs. Smith's condition had been serious for several weeks. A post
    mortem was determined upon, as a means of establishing the cause of her illness. It was to be held in Omaha today. The body will be brought to Fremont this afternoon over the North Western.

    Mrs. Smith was born in September, 1863, in Indiana. Her parents afterwards resided in Fairbury, Neb. From there Mrs. Smith, whose name was then Leora Bell Rice, came to Fremont in 1890. She was married to Mr. Smith February 23, 1891. Their residence in Fremont since that time has been continuous. Mrs. Smith won many warm friends, who regarded her highly. A few years ago she united with the Presbyterian church.

    The immediate surviving relatives are the husband and one daughter, Mrs. Hope Nelson. There are three brothers, residing in Dixon, Ill., Princeton, Mo., and Evergreen, Colo., and one sister residing at Trenton, Kas. All of the brothers and the sister are expected to arrive in time for the funeral, the hour of which will be announced later.

    Local Brevities Funeral of Mrs. Smith

    The funeral of Mrs. Wallace Smith who died at an Omaha hospital where she had been taken for treatment will be held at the First Presbyterian Church Sunday at 2 p.m. The pastor, the Rev. Nathaniel McGiffin, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery. The body was brought to Freemont from Omaha yesterday.

    MILTON E. RICE, STERLING HOTEL PROPRIETOR, DIES

    Milton E. Rice, 89, prominent hotel man for more than 40 years died at 7:45 p.m. Monday following a brief illness.
    Mr. Rice, who operated the Lincoln Hotel in Sterling, during his years as hotel man had establishments in Sterling, Dixon, Elgin, DeKalb and Freeport.

    Milton was born Oct. 28, 1865 in Westville, Ind. and came to Illinois when a young man. He was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away in January of 1947.

    Mr. Rice observed his 89th birthday Thursday, Oct. 28 when members of his family gathered at the Lincoln Hotel for a dinner party.

    Milton is survived by three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Keith Benson Sr., of Sterling; Mrs. Carl Degenhart, St. Charles, and Mrs. Grover McDonald, Dixon; Roy Rice, DeKalb, and Lee Rice, Tucason, Ariz. Ten grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren also survive.

    Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Trouth Funeral Home, with Rev. Vernon Jones, rector of St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Dixon, officiating.

    A memorial service will be conducted later. Entombment was made in Memorial Mausoleum, Riverside Cemetery, Sterling.

    H.E. RICE PASSED AWAY

    Mr. Henry E. Rice passed away at his home on east Second street Wednesday morning at 9:30. He had only been ill two days and was suddenly taken worse Tuesday night. The remains will lie in state at the Poland Funeral Home and funeral arrangements will be announced later.

    He is survived by the wife of the home, three daughters, Mrs. Clifford Myers of Turney, Mrs. Joseph Wright of Ventura, Calif., and Mrs. Charles Logue, Cameron; three sons, Walter Rice of Richmond, Calif., Milton Rice, of the home and Glee Rice of Dayton, Ohio. Also a number of grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends.

    Funeral Tomorrow

    The body of Edgar E. Rice, who died in Phoenix, Ar., Saturday, is expected to arrive tonight at 8:30. It will be taken to the Nichols Undertaking establishment and remain until tomorrow when it will be taken to the home of his brother H.E. Rice. Funeral service will be held there at 10 o'clock a.m. conducted by Rev. Kilborn. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

    The remains of Ernest Rice, killed in the railroad yards at Council Bluffs, Ia., early yesterday morning, will arrive here tonight on Burlington No. 16, accompanied by H.E.     Funeral services were today at the Poland-Thompson chapel for Mrs. Vera Belle Logue, 67, a life long resident of DeKalb and Clinton counties. Burial was in Graceland cemetery. The Rev. John Gooding, Chillicothe, afficiated.

    Mrs. Logue died Friday in San Mateo, Calif., at the home of a daughter, Mrs. LaVerla Elliott. She had been in California about three months. Mrs. Logue was a glass sculptor and ran a ceramics business in her home here.

    Survivors include six other daughters, Mrs. Elsie May Walker and Mrs. Billie Jo Pemberton, both of Cameron; Mrs. Alta Mann, Kidder; Mrs. Jean Ensign, Kansas City; Mrs. Charlene Ellis, Petersburg, Fla.; Mrs. Leona Fitzwilliams, Rogers, Ark.; 3 brothers, Milton Rice, Cameron; Glee Rice, Las Vegas, Nev.; and Walter Rice, Richmond, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Minerva Meyers, Las Vegas, Nev.; Mrs. Ada Wright, Independence; 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

    MRS. VERA LOGUE

    Mrs. Vera Bell Logue, daughter of Henry E. and Icey Rice was born Nov. 17, 1899 and died Jan. 6, 1967 at the home of a daughter in California. She was united in marriage to Charles Edwin Logue Mar. 10, 1919 who preceded her death. She was a member of the RLDS church of Cameron.

    Survivors are eight daughters; Mrs. Leona Fitzwilliams, Prewitt, Ark.; Mrs. LaVerla Elliott, San Mateo, Calif.; Mrs. Elsie Walker, Hamilton; Mrs. Juanita Kellerstrass, Cameron; Mrs. Alta Mann, Kidder; Mrs. Jean Ensign,
    Overland Park, Kans.; Mrs. Charlene Ellis, O'Fallon, Mo.; Mrs. Billy JoAnn Pemberton, Cameron; two sisters Mrs. Clifford Myers, Las Vegas, Nev.; Mrs. Joe Wright, Independence; three brothers, Milton Rice, Cameron; Glee Rice, Las Vegas, Nev.; and Walter E. Rice, Richmond, Calif.; sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
    Funeral was held Monday at Thompson-Poland Funeral chapel with Rev. John Gooding officiating.

    Milton Freeman Rice, 73, died Wednesday at the Veterans Hospital at Wadsworth, Kans.

    Born in Canton, Kans., Mr. Rice had resided in Cameron and most recently in Hamilton. He was a member of the RLDS Church.

    Survivors include two sons, Wallace Rice and Richard Rice, both of Independence, two brothers, Walter Rice, Richmond, Calif., and Glee Rice, state of Arizona; two sisters, Mrs. Ada Wright, Polo, and Mrs. Minerva Myers, Monett, nine grandchildren and a great grandchild.

    Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cameron Memory Gardens.

    Glee Rice, 74, of 4596 Royal Ridge Ave., Las Vegas, Nev., died Saturday (July 3, 1982) at 7:19 a.m. in East Deer Township, Pa. while visiting relatives.

    He was born May 26, 1908, in Canton, Kansas, to Henry E. and Icey Arnetta Smith Rice.

    Retired, Mr. Rice had been an engineer for Reynolds Electric Engineers at the Mercury test site in Nevada. He was a member of AFL-CIO International Union of Operating Engineers Local 12 of Los Angeles, Calif. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Rice was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 8, Las Vegas.

    Survivors include his wife, Thelma D. DeBastiani Rice, formerly of East Deer; two sisters, Mrs. Clifford (Minerva) Myers of Monett, Mo., and Mrs. Joseph (Ada) Wright of Independence, Mo.,; and one brother, Walter of Richmond, Calif.

    A service was conducted today at 11 a.m. in the Paul R. Ajak Funeral Home, 921 Freeport Road, Creighton, by the Rev. James S. Crowin, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Tarentum. Burial followed in Plum Creek Cemetery. Full Military honors were provided by Tarentum VFW Post 5758, Lower Burrell VFW Post Wildlife Lodge Road and the Army Reserves in New Kensington.

    Ada Rose Wright, 88, Independence, MO, passed away Friday, December 17, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

    Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 21, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel; burial in Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, December 20, at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the Parkinson's Support Center, 7808 Foster, Overland Park, Kansas 66204, or to the American Heart Association.

    Mrs. Wright was born June 13, 1911 in Cameron, Missouri, the sixth child Henry and Icey Rice. Ada was married to Joseph Lyle Wright on March 4, 1933. Ada and Joseph lived in California for several years, and returned to the Kansas City area in 1950. Ada and Joseph were very active in the RLDS Church. Ada had been a member of the Buckner Restoration Branch and the Rosewood Restoration Branch.

    Ada was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lyle Wright on December 6, 1991. Ada was a devoted mother, and is survived by two sons, Lyle D. Wright, Independence, MO, and Ramon L. Wright, Bonner Springs, KS; two daughters, Vanice G. Maitland, Independence, MO, and DuVonne A. Campbell, Albuquerque, NM; a sister, Minerva J. Myers, Monnett, MO; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.     Walter Rice died Saturday in an Oakland hospital at the age of 73. A native of Cameron, Mo., he lived in Richmond 42 years.

    Mr. Rice was a machinist for Pacific Coast Engineers until retiring. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
    He is survived by his wife, LuVerne Rice of Richmond; one daughter, Pamela Hentz of Richmond; and one granddaughter.
    Memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset View Mortuary Chapel in El Cerrito with the Rev. O. Janke officiating. Burial will be at Sunset View Cemetery, El Cerrito.

    Wallace James Rice, 88 of Independence, MO passed away, Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Rosewood Health Center.

    Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 9, 2013 at the community room and The Groves Retirement Community, 1600 W. White Oak, Independence, MO 64050. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m., until service time Monday at the community room. Donations to The Groves Congregation of the Community of Christ.

    Wallace was born July 2, 1925 in Cameron, MO to Milton F. and Annabel Maxine (Carroll) Rice. He graduated high school in Cameron, MO and received a bachelor's degree in education. He taught public schools from the early 1950's until the early 1970's. He later worked in security, and volunteered his time for several organizations including the Community of Christ Temple and the Groves Community Hospice. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. He enjoyed music and was a member of the Messiah Choir from 1950 until 2008 as well as a member of the choir at the Stone Church, Community of Christ. He was an active member and elder in the Community of Christ.

    He was married to June (Robb) on December 22, 1950; she survives of the home. Other survivors include; 2 daughters, Janet and Joanna; a son, Robert and 4 grandchildren. Online condolence memories may be expressed at www.speakschapel.com
