    Weber City John Paul Blanton, 83 of Weber City, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Bristol Hospice House following a brief illness.

    He was in the Virginia National Guard, 276 Engineering Battalion headquartered in Gate City. He was past president of the Gate City Jaycees and held several positions on state level. He was owner and operator of Scott County Lumber and Hardware.

    He was preceded in death by his first wife, and mother of his son, Virginia Shepherd Blanton; his second wife, Ruth Tipton Blanton.

    John is survived by his son, Michael Blanton and wife Melissa; step-daughter, April Gillenwater; grandchildren, Michelle Blanton Graham and husband Jordan and John Thomas Blanton; great-grandchildren, Riley Graham and Hudson Graham; step-grandson, Bryson Gillenwater; brother, Harold Blanton and wife Betty Lou Blanton.

    The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City.

    A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Blessing officiating. Burial will follow in Holston View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brent Meyers, Freddie Barnett, Ronnie Tipton, Harold Blanton, John Thomas Blanton and Bryson Gillenwater. Honorary pallbearers will be Burl Jennings, Howard Tipton, Paul Roark, Jordan Graham, Larry Thompson and Mike Grizzle.

    The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Bristol Hospice House for the care given to our father during his illness.

    The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Wellmont Foundation (Bristol Hospice House), PO 1069, Kingsport, TN 37662-9968.

    Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City is serving the Blanton family.

    John married Virginia Mae SHEPHERD. Virginia (daughter of Clarence Elmer SHEPHERD and Rosa Mae WHITAKER) was born 5 May 1932, Virginia; died 19 May 1993, Weber City, Scott Co. VA; was buried , Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Scott Co. VA. [Group Sheet]
