Donald Hutton Whitaker

Graveside services for Donald ?Don? Hutton Whitaker of Longview will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 6, 2003, in Memory Park Cemetery. Mr. Whitaker died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Semper Care Hospital in Good Shepherd Medical Center. He passed away in the presence of his beloved family, following a lengthy illness. Services will be conducted by the Revs. Paul and Lisa Klaus.

Don Whitaker was born in Bristol, Va., on June 24, 1926. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lexie Whitaker, and one brother, C.A. Whitaker Jr. He graduated from Dobyns Bennett High School in Kingsport, Tenn. He attended East Tennessee State University. Mr. Whitaker then served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, in the Pacific. In 1956, Mr. Whitaker and his family moved to Longview to begin a 35-year career with Texas Eastman Co. Don was also an active member of Woodland Christian Church.

Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Weaver Whitaker, and his mother-in-law, Kathryn Johnson. He is also survived by his three children and their families, Dona and Jimmy Adams of Longview, Rick and Pat Whitaker of Henderson and Ken and Edith Whitaker of San Antonio. Mr. Whitaker?s surviving siblings include Gay W. Jankey of Longview, Edith and Bedford May of Virginia Beach, Va., and Shirley and Lloyd Yonce and Carol C. Whitaker, all of Kingsport. Other survivors include his grandchildren, Trey and Toni Adams, Zack Adams, Brian and Dee Whitaker, Christy and Brett Doerr, Stacy Huntley, Brandy Hailey, Christie Love, Wendy Millar and Leah Anne Whitaker. Mr. Whitaker is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Riess, Skylar, Hailey, Chaney, Jordan and Brady. There are numerous others to whom Mr. Whitaker was a most beloved uncle, friend or cousin.

Pallbearers are Trey Adams, Zack Adams, Brian Whitaker, Brett Doerr, Jim Presley, Clark Presley and Phil Parnell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Woodland Christian Church, Millie?s Ministries or the National Kidney Foundation.

Shirley Yonce

KINGSPORT Shirley Whitaker Yonce, 79, Kingsport, TN, died at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2007, after an extended illness.

She was born in Kingsport and attended Dobyns-Bennett High School. Mrs. Yonce was a homemaker and owner of Discount Foods in Jonesborough. She was a member of First Christian Church.

Her husband, James L. Yonce Jr., parents, C.A. Whitaker Sr. and Lexie H. Whitaker, sister, Gaynell Jankey; and two brothers, C.A. Whitaker Jr. and Donald Whitaker, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her daughters, Diana Parnell and husband, Phil, Marty Southerland and husband, Roger, son, James Lloyd Yonce III and wife, Lora, all of Kingsport, TN; four grandchildren, Kim Chandler and husband, Don, Chris Lunsford and wife, Amy, Alex Yonce, and Andy Southerland; four great-grandchildren, Kaylee and Blakely Chandler, Haddie and Elsie Lunsford; sister, Edith W. May and husband, Bedford, Kingsport, TN; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are 5-7:00 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church, Kingsport, TN.

Services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the church with Phil Scott, Minister officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.
