    OBITUARY

Sierra Vista Herald; 22 Jan 2010

Bertram Smith Bennett, age 81, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away peacefully at home on Sunday Jan. 17, 2010, per his wishes.

Bert was born on Sept. 2, 1928, in Danvers, Mass.

He was the son of Cary and Frank Bennett. Bert was preceded in death by the love of his life, Kay on March 19, 2007, and by his beloved cat ?Poppy?.

His brothers Frank, Rodney and Donald, as well as his sisters Mary, Virginia, Shirley, and Marion also preceded Bert.

Bert had a 30 plus year career in the U.S. Army earning numerous medals while stationed in Hawaii, Virginia, Washington, California and Labrador, Canada. He also served two tours of duty in Vietnam, earning the Purple Heart.

It was while he was stationed in Goose Bay Labrador that Bert met his wife Kay, and together they created many wonderful memories in their worldwide travels before finally settling in Sierra Vista. Kay believed the weather to be perfect and Bert always enjoyed his golfing. Bert continued to work as a private contractor in the Fort Huachuca area after his retirement from the military in 1979.

His niece Mary Beth Collins of Massachusetts and his nephew Frank Bennett of New York survive Bert. A funeral mass will be celebrated in Bert's honor on Friday March 12, 2010 at 11am at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church. Bert will then be inurned in the Mother Theresa Columbarium with Kay.

Many thanks to Hacienda rehab for the care Bert was given, and to his longtime friends who never failed to call or visit him. Thanks also to his caregiver Azlor. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice. May peace be with us all and God Bless.

Arrangements by Jensens Sierra Vista Mortuary.
