"He perhaps had a first name before Hood. He and Elizabeth were living in Barry County, MO. The Barry County, MO 1850 Census was very dim, but a neighbor gave names of his children and there in this file."

Hood Tate was a First Lieutenant in the Stone Prairie Independent Home Guard Company during the Civil War. His sons, William Jasper Tate and James Jefferson Tate, were killed during the Civil War defending Springfield, Green Co., Missouri. They are buried in the National Cemetery in Springfield.
