Dewey Absher,86, of Pounding Mill,died in a Richlands hospital. He was born in Tazewell County,Va. and was the son of the late Charlie and Rena(Chambers)Absher.

He had been a lifelong resident of the Tazewell County area and was a retired self-employed coal miner.He was a member of the Trinity Tabernacle Church in Raven,Va.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy Absher; two brothers Lloyd Absher and Roy Absher. Survivors are his wife Mrs. Sadie(Short)Absher; three daughters Mrs. Elmer(Ruby)Hylton, Mrs. Buford(Doris)Davis and Mrs. Marvin(Thelma)Cordill; five sons Troy Absher, Hurley Absher, Rev. OBITUARY

Mrs. Mattie Mae Absher Stilwell,90,passed away Saturday April 12 2003 at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville Maryland following a brief illness.

She was born in Tazewell County Virginia and was the daughter of the late Charles Allen and Rena Chambers Absher both Tazewell County natives.

She had made her home in the Raven Virginia and Steelsburg area all of her life and was a member of the Fork Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband Charlie W. Stilwell, daughter--Mrs. Ann Stilwell Robinson; sons-in-law Mr. Jack Smith and Mr. Ralph Robinson; sister Mrs. Artie Alifair Absher Keen; brothers Mr. Dewey Absher, Mr. Lloyd Absher, and Mr. Roy Absher.

Survivors are two daughters Mrs. Lovell Stilwell Smith of Clarksburg Maryland and Mrs. Ruth Stilwell Brewster and husband James Brewster of Tazewell Virginia; three sisters Mrs. Rosa Absher Messick of Pounding Mill Virginia, Mrs. Nell Absher Buckles and husband Joe Buckles of Midland Virginia and Mrs. Maxie Absher Williamson and her husband Bernard Williamson of Stafford Virginia; brother James Absher of Raven Virginia; seven grandchildren--seven great-grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at two at the Hurst-Scott Chapel in Richlands Virginia with the Rev. Jim Nelson and Rev. Phillip Horton officiating.

Pallbearers will be her Grandsons.

Friends may call at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands Virginia after six Tuesday.

Burial will be in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill Virginia.

OBITUARY

James T. Absher, 90, of the Road Ridge Section of Raven, Va., went to meet his Lord, May 31, 2005, surrounded by his family and friends, singing his favorite hymn, "Amazing Grace," following a lengthy illness.

Born in Tazewell County, Va., he was the son of the late Charles Allen and Rena Belle Chambers Absher, both Tazewell County natives. He was a lifelong resident of the Raven area. He was a retired, self-employed logger and excavator and a retired coal miner. He was a member of the Fork Ridge House of Prayer Church in Raven.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Green Absher; one son; Thurman David Absher; three sisters, Mattie Stilwell, Artie Keen and Maxie Williams; four brothers, Dewey, Roy, Lloyd and William Absher.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Karen Johnson and husband, Danny of Raven, Mrs. Lois Osborne and husband, Tommy of Raven; six sons, Jerry Absher and wife, Emma of Raven, Travis Absher and wife, Margaret of Raven, Joel Absher of Raven, Charles Wayne Absher and wife, Aleta of Versailees, Ky., Coy Absher and wife, Effie of Raven, Larry Absher and wife, Carol of Raven Nest Branch; daughter-in-law, Linda Absher of Greensboro, N.C.; former daughter-in-Law, Mary Lou Absher of Raven; two sisters, Rosa Messick of Pounding Mill, Va., Nell Buckles of Northern Virginia; special friend and caregiver, Jeanette Vandyke; 15 grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; special caregivers, Evelyn Grimsley, Michelle Johnson, Stephanie Mullins and Golden Age Retirement Home Staff.

Funeral services for James T. Absher will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2005, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel, Richlands, with the Rev. David Horton and Rev. Eddie Hess officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Va.

Rosa Ellen Absher Messick, age 93, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2010. Born February 5, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Rena Absher. Rosa had been a life long resident of the Richlands, VA area before moving to Covington, GA just over a year ago.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward V. Messick; four sisters - Mattie Stilwell, Artie Keen, Maxie Williamson and Nell Buckles; and four brothers - Jim Absher, Roy Absher, Dewey Absher and Lloyd Absher.

She is survived by two sons, William Messick and wife Phyllis of Pounding Mill, VA and Glen Messick and wife Doris of Covington, GA, with whom she had made her home since moving to Covington; one grandson, Marty Messick and wife Elizabeth and one granddaughter Tina Baldwin and husband Greg; four great grandchildren - Roxanne Messick, Lesha Cyphers, Leah Cyphers and Jordan Cyphers also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Virginia. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

She was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and was a daughter of the late Charles and Rena Chambers Absher, both Tazewell County, Virginia natives.

She was a life long resident of the Tazewell County area and was a former bookkeeper for several independent coal operators and was among the first postmistresses to serve in Tazewell County, Virginia. She was a life long member of the Richlands Tabernacle and was a very loving friend to her family and community.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Albert T. Keen and three brothers, Dewey, Roy, and Lloyd Absher.

He was born in Raven,Va., and was the son of the late Charlie Allen and Rena(Chambers)Absher.He had made his home in the Raven area since 1978 and was of the Holiness faith. He was a disabled coal miner and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by one brother Roy E.Absher. FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. Georgia Nell Absher Buckles, 74, of Fauquier County, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at her home.

Mrs. Buckles had retired from the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., as a bookkeeper. She was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mt. Vernon, Va. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Katie Buckles of Stafford, Va. and her parents, Charles Allen Absher and Rena Bell Chambers Absher of Raven, Va. Five brothers, Dewey, Lloyd, Roy, James and William. Two sisters, Artie Absher Keen and Mattie Mae Absher Stilwell.

She is survived by her husband, Joe H. Buckles; one daughter, Wanda Neal and son-in-law, Larry R. Neal of Midland, Va.; three grandchildren, Larry E. Neal, Kelly Ann Lester and Joe W. Swerchek; two sisters; Maxie Absher Williamson and Rosa Absher Messick; six great grandchildren, Alan Ray Lester, Laura Nell Lester, Larry E. Neal II, Joe William Swerchek Jr., Zachary Neal and Noah Swerchek; a special caregiver and family friend, Ann Follin of Hague, Va.

The family will receive friends today, Tuesday, Oct. 10, 6-8 p.m. at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel, Fredericksburg, Va. where a funeral will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Bill Kittle and the Rev. Paul Curry will officiate. Interment will be in Rock Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Ruby, Va.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons, Larry Neal, Joe Swerchek, Benny Lester Jr., Alan Ray Lester, Larry R. Neal and John Swerchek.

OBITUARY

PLEASANT GARDEN, N.C. ? Mr. Harold N. Absher, 77, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, Ill.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15 at Pleasant Garden Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will follow at Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian, N.C., with the Rev. John Absher and the Rev. Daniel Absher officiating.

Mr. Absher was born on March 30, 1932 in Fork Ridge, Va. He attended Pleasant Garden Holiness Church and retired from Holiday Tours. He belonged to the Christian Motorcyclist Club. He was a veteran, having retired from the United States Air Force. Harold loved every kid he met and they loved him. He never met a stranger and told everyone he met that he loved Jesus.

Those that have gone on to heaven before him are his parents, Roy and Mary Green Absher; grandchildren, Meghan A. and Bethany B. Fleming.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Kitty Wilson Absher;
daughter, Selena Lee Absher Fleming and husband D. Scott of Randleman; son, the Rev. John Edward Absher and wife S. Milena of Plainfield, Ill.; brothers, the Rev. Daniel Lee Absher and wife Shirley, the Rev. Arnold K. Absher and wife Rickie, both of Pleasant Garden, the Rev. Freeman Edward Absher and wife Joann (in heaven), Sidney Allen Absher (in heaven) and wife Jean of Virginia; sisters, Freida Willien and husband Billy (in heaven), Lyla Osborne and husband Estel, Edith Gruer and husband Ed, Juanita Shephard and husband Bob (in heaven), Linda Hester and husband Junior, Guilda Sue Honaker and husband the Rev. Sammy, all of Pleasant Garden, Jacqueline Osborne and husband Alvin of Liberty; grandchildren, Tabitha A. Fleming and Tyler C. Fleming; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lovell Stilwell Smith, 84, of Clarksburg, MD, died Tuesday, December 17, at Montgomery Hospice Casey House, Rockville, Md.

She was the wife of the late Jack Bane Smith, whom she married November 27, 1959. Born April 5, 1929, in Raven, VA, she was the daughter of the late Charlie William Stilwell and Mattie Mae Absher Stilwell of Cedar Bluff, VA.

Mrs. Smith was an LPN having worked for several years in medical care in the Richlands, Va. area.

Surviving are two daughters: Julia A. Frickert and husband Richard Y. of Marine City, Michigan; Susan M. Lewis and husband Eddie E. Lewis, Jr. of Clarksburg, Md; three grandchildren, Richard E. Frickert, Rebecca M. Frickert and Chelsea N. Lewis; sister, Ruth Stilwell Brewster and husband James L. Brewster of Tazewell, VA.
