Albert Leighton
U.S. Army Korean War veteran
Albert R. Leighton, 72, of Pigeon Hill Road in Union, died Saturday morning, Aug. 13, 2005, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, after a brief illness.
Born Sept. 3, 1932, in Middleton, he was a son of the late Presco E. and Gladys E. (Russell) Leighton. He resided in Union most all of his life.
A United States Army veteran, he was stationed in Korea for two years, where he was an MP. He was an active member of the V.F.W. Post #7663 in Union.
In earlier years, he drove tractor trailers, drove a truck for New England Box, had worked at the Woolen Mill in Gonic, and also had been a logger. Albert retired, after 19 years, from the State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation, where he worked with the Highway Department.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his niece and nephew, Carol C. Leighton and Steven R. Leighton, with whom he resided in Union; six siblings, Evelyn M. Currier of Dover, Edwin P. Leighton of Farmington, Bernice D. Frechette of Somersworth, Herbert F. Leighton of Farmington, Francis E. Leighton of Alaska, and Robert C. Leighton of Effingham; many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and greatgrandnieces and greatgrandnephews, and several cousins.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor Leighton and Doris Leighton.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the Union Congregational Church, with interment following at Plummers Cemetery.
