John Cousar KIRK was born ca 1812, Lancaster Co. SC; died 1887, Rosedale, Bolivar Co. MS.

In 1849 he and his brother set out from New Orleans from California. Because of the illness of his brother they returned in 1851. In that years John C. Kirk bought land near Rosedale, Miss. and named this place Waxhaw after his family home place in S.C. He married in 1858, Edwina Ann Melchoir, dau. of John Casper Melchoir, who came to America from France in 1828, first settling at Frankfort, KY, where Mrs. Kirk was born. John C. Kirk died in 1887 and Mrs. Kirk died in 1907 at the age of seventy years.

John married Edwina Ann Melchior 1858. Edwina was born Jan 1838, Frankfort, Franklin Co. KY; died 1907, Rosedale, Bolivar Co. MS. [Group Sheet]
