Three brothers, JOHN, BARTHOLOMEW, and ANGUS VAWTER came to Northumberland Co. VA. about 1675, as indentured servants of Thomas Opie; they were accused of hog stealing 16 Oct. 1676, and JOHN VAWTER was punished for killing a neighbor's hog as a result of this accusation.

Blackburn's Creek, Occupatia, and Cockleshell Creek flow into the south side of the Rappahannock River. Along these creeks in old Rappahannock Co., VA., and what is
now Essex Co., VA., were the plantations of BARTHOLOMEW VAWTER, WILLIAM HODGSON, THOMAS PAGE, CORNELIUS NOELL, and PETER RUCKER. On down the Rappahannock River, in Middlesex Co., VA. were the plantations of CLAUDE VALLOTT
and STOKELEY TOWLES.


BARTHOLOMEW VAWTER, son of JOHN VAWTER, the Immigrant, lived on Blackburn's Creek, married 1696, WINIFRED HODGSON, daughter of WILLIAM HODGSON, a merchant and planter who lived on Cockleshell Creek.

Bartholomew married Winnifred Hodgson ca 1690, Essex Co. VA. Winnifred (daughter of William Hodgson) was born ca 1669, Essex Co. VA; died ca 1756, Essex Co. VA. [Group Sheet]

John married Margaret Noell ca 1715, Essex Co. VA. Margaret (daughter of Daniel Noell) was born ca 1695, Essex Co. VA; died 21 Oct 1756, Culpepper Co. VA. [Group Sheet]

RICHARD VAWTER was the son of JOHN II & MARGARET NOELL. RICHARD married FRANCES TOWLES, dau. of STOKLEY & ANN VALLOTT and was a planter of Madison Co. 1740-1803.

Richard married Frances Towles 17 Aug 1758, Middlesex Co. VA. Frances (daughter of Stokeley Towles and Ann Vallott) was born 08 May 1730, Middlesex Co. VA; died 11 Nov 1811, Madison Co. VA. [Group Sheet]
