In company with John F. Woods, Lemuel Perham, and his brother, Oliver Bailey, he [Eliphat Bailey] came to the Sandy River township in April, 1788, and took up a part of back lot No. 26, east side, in the locality popularly known as Bailey hill. In the long and perilous journey, Mr. and Mrs. Bailey had the grief of burying a little child by the way.
On the farm he took up, he passed the remainder of his life, and died in May, 1836. Mr. Bailey was a deacon in the Baptist Church and a pillar in that communion so long as he lived, giving his last labors to its up building.. He married in Dunstable, Rebecca, daughter of Lemuel Perham, she died in 1806, and he married (2) Nov. 3, 1806, Mary Smith. Eight children by first marriage.

Jason Blakeslee and Sarah Elizabeth Russell until 1854 lived on a farm near Painesville, Ohio. The family moved to Spring Garden, Illinois. In 1866, they decided to move because the climate in Spring Garden, Illinois was not suitable for some of their family.
Nancy notes "I know why because I visited there a few years ago, it's always raining and flooding, and mosquitoes everywhere, but it was quite fertile growing ground."
In May, 1870, a caravan of five covered wagons drawn by mules and horses set out from Spring Garden, Illinois for the Wet Mountain Valley in Colorado. All the citizens of Spring Garden, Illinois were present to bid them God-speed.
After several seasons on South Hardscrabble, Colorado, Jason Blakeslee staked a homestead of 130 acres on Hardscrabble Park.

Mary Olivia Blakeslee m Samuel W. Bernard stayed in Spring Garden for awhile until Samuel could get well. Samuel was originally from Tennessee, where he practiced medicine as a doctor, then he became a pharmacist. In 1871, these two joined the Blakeslee family in Colorado. This family had 6 children
