LEBANON, Va. ? The Rev. Carlyle Carter went to be with the Lord on July 29, 2009. He believed I Corinthians 15:22, \"For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.\"
The Rev. Carter was born on April 23, 1929. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Myra Floe Carter; his father, Claude Carter; and his sister, Peggy Griffith. He is survived by his mother, Gladys Carter; three daughters, Barbara Snead and husband Larry of Lebanon, Sue Rasnake and husband Ron of Lynchburg and Karen Chafin of Portsmouth; three beloved grandchildren, Christopher Snead and wife Cameron of Lebanon, Jarrod Rasnake of Charlottesville and Marissa Snead of Lebanon; a sister, Maxine Lawson of Ohio; a brother, Bill Carter and wife Betty of Dante; and several nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Carter was a past employee of the Pittston Coal Co. and retired after 43 years. He was the pastor of several small churches over the years and remained pastor of Cedar Baptist Church of Lebanon for 32 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served as a paratrooper.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2009, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Edwards and the Rev. Charlie Harrison Sr. officiating. Entombment will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, in the Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, with military rites conducted by the Lebanon VFW Post No. 9864.
Those attending are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10 a.m. to go in procession to the mausoleum. The family will receive family and friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2009, prior to the service at the funeral home or any time at the Rev. Carter\'s home.
Pallbearers will be Ron Rasnake, Larry Snead, Roger Carter, John Griffith, C.C. Harrison Jr., Ronnie Dye, Jerry Stinson II and Giles Gray. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
