OBITUARY
Radford News Journal, 29 Aug 1961
Robert D. Tate, Jr, a 38 year old Blacksburg man, was found dead yesterday in a recreation parlor of the Blacksburg Fire Station, from a bullet wound. According to Dr. R.H. Grubbs, the medical examiner, the bullet which killed Tate was apparently self-inflicted. Grubbs said no reason for the suicide had been found. The shooting occurred between 12:30 and 1 a.m. Monday (8/28/1961). Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Hale Tate, daughters Patricia Leigh Tate and Mary Ruth Tate, of Blacksburg, one son, Robert H. Tate; his mother, Mrs. Mary Moore Tate, two sisters Mrs. R.W. Henderson of Blacksburg, and Mrs. J.W. Payne, Warrenton. Funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Blacksburg Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Garden. The body will be taken from the Jones Funeral Home to the church at 2 p.m. [1]
