1727, 14 Dec: George Woodruff petitioned the Council of VA at Williamsburg in reference to the question of a patent to 380 acres of land in King William Co. on the East North East River. The petition states that Benjamin Arnold "did devise the said land to his daughter Rachel, now the wife of Francis Arnold. But no patent ever sued out for same. It appeareing to this Board that Anne Arnold the widow of the said Benjamin hath surreptitiously obtained a copy of the aforesaid survey and returned the same into the Secretary's Office with intent to take out a patent thereon. It is ordered that no patent issue to the said Anne, but that as well the said Anne as the said Francis Arnold and the petitioner do attend this Board on the 6th day of February next to make out their several pretensions to the said lands."

1727/8, 6 Feb: The Council ordered that George Woodruff have a patent for the land upon his giving bond to convey the same to Anne, the daughter of Rachel Arnold, when she came of age or married. Francis Arnold was in constant financial trouble, and after being foreclosed upon and thrown into Debtor's Gaol ca. 1759, he left Spotsylvania Co. Woodruff probably feared Francis would dispose of the younger Anne's land and was trying to preserve it for her. This indicates he may have been related to Anne, Benjamin's wife.

1731, 28 Jul: George Woodruff deeded 180 acres of the 380 acres he was to hold in trust for Anne to Joseph Temple. Martin Davenport, Frank and Rachael Arnold, and Benjamin Arnold were subscribing witnesses.

1736, 5 Oct: William Davenport and Anne, his wife, deed to Francis Arnold and Rachael, his wife, 100 acres of a 200 acre tract deeded to them by George Woodruff on 1 Oct, part of the 380 acres held in trust for Anne Arnold by grant dated 17 Apr 1728.
