OBITUARY

Mrs. Ruth E. Smith, 90, of Banning Road, Whitesburg, Ga., died Saturday, Feb. 22 in a local hospital.
Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 12, 1912 in Carroll County to the late Eugene Duke and Hettie Nelms Duke. She was retired from the Whitesburg Braider Mill and was a faithful member of the Banning Church of God.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Dewey Smith, one infant son, five sisters and three brothers.
Surviving are children Glenn Edward and Carolyn Argo of Whiteburg, Sharline and James Bowen of Austell and Patrick and Margaret Smith of Whitesburg; seven grandchldren, eight great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
A funeral was Monday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. at Banning Church of God with Rev. J. M. "Buck" Jones and Rev. Robert Massey officiating. Pallbearers were Mike Bowen, Jeff Bowen, Eddie Argo, Stephen Rice, Mark Crozier, George McCauley, Scott Mitchell and Darrell Pugh. The great-grandchildren formed an honorary escort. Burial was in the church cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Henry officiating.
