Records indicate that MDL and Nancy lived in the Armuchee area (near the Duke residence) from the time they were married until about 1877, when they moved to Utah. While living in Armuchee, Marquis encountered LDS [Mormon] missionaries who later converted the family. Their conversion to the Mormon faith was likely what resulted in their eventual move to Utah
