Billy Carl Honaker, 69, of the Baptist Valley section of Cedar Bluff, died July 23 in a Salem, Va., Veterans Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born in Hartwell, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lon B. and Thelma Lockhart Honaker, both McDowell County natives.
He had made his home in the Baptist Valley area most of his life and was the co-owner of Blue Grass Machinery in North Tazewell until 2000. He was a member of the Yost Chapel Church in Baptist Valley and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a graduate of Tazewell High School Class of 1957. He was a U.S. Army Veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant sister, Ann Nadine Honaker; one sister, Betty Slaughter; one grandson, Samuel Ein Altizer; and one granddaughter, Jessica Nicole Altizer.
Survivors: wife, Hattie Waddell Honaker; daughters, Diane Altizer and husband, Sam, Jr., of Baptist Valley, Teresa Bracken and husband, Paul, of Parma, Ohio; sister, Brenda Poskas and husband, Leon, of Pulaski; brother, Edward Honaker and wife, Fern, of Troutville; granddaughters, Sarah Bracken and Katlyn Bracken; step granddaughter, Tiffany Bracken; and step great grandson, Angel Colon; and special caregivers, Chores & Errands Ambulance Service, Dr. In Young Park and Staff at the Richlands Dialysis Center.
The funeral was conducted July 26 at 1 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Charles Patterson officiating.
Interment followed at the Bandy Family Cemetery in Baptist Valley. Members of Barns-Beavers VFW Post #7136 conducted military graveside rites.
