Jury Impaneled For Three Years Brings In Verdict
WASHINGTON
A coroner's jury impaneled three years ago returned its verdict yesterday?that Alfred L. Potter's death Jan. 29, 1949 was accidental. The verdict exonerated Arnold M. Dye and Leon C. Rockett, employes of the Mayflower Hotel, who were located only last month. Both testified Potter begged money from them in a tavern, was dissatisfied with the quarter they gave him, and followed them outside. They said Dye pushed Potter and when he failed to get up they assumed he was too drunk to stand. Potter died two weeks later at Mt. Alto Veterans Hospital from a skull fracture, pneumonia and exhaustion.
[Note: Arnold's half brother, Marvin "Bob" Beavers worked as doorman at the Mayflower Hotel from 1949 to 1992. Bob was known as the "Mayor of Connecticut Avenue." More than likely Bob got him a job at the hotel.]
