Eugene Grover Lockhart Sr.
LERONA ? Ready to meet his Lord, Eugene Grover Lockhart, Sr., age 74, of 437 Old Lerona Road, Lerona, W.Va., joined the church triumphant Saturday, March 7, 2009 at his home with his wife of 51 years at his side.
Born February 13, 1935 at Isaban, W.Va., he was the son of the late Grover C. and Maxie Blankenship Lockhart. Eugene was the grandson of the late Enos and Darcus Kennedy Blankenship and the late William Snyder and Nancy Cline Lockhart. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Keith Lockhart and Delmas Lewis Lockhart.
Eugene was a graduate of Iaeger High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, having served in the Army Security Agency. Eugene was a member of the United Methodist Church and attended Painters Chapel UMC in Speedway, W.Va. He was a member of the Gideons, Concord Masonic Lodge, Athens #33 Order of the Eastern Star, and United Mine Workers of America.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Jean Matherly Lockhart, of the home; three daughters, Reverend Canessa Stafford (and husband Kenneth) of Statesville, N.C.; Veneicia Lockhart of Haymarket, Va.; Mary Maxine ?Mimi? Fuchs (and husband Tim) of Columbus Ohio; one son, Eugene Grover Lockhart, Jr., of Canton Ohio; and seven grandchildren, Christopher Henderson (and wife Leath), Amanda Stafford, Amber Lockhart, Cody Lockhart, Charley Fuchs, Abbegail Fuchs and Allison Lockhart.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Painters Chapel UMC, with the Reverend Tommy Mounts officiating. Burial will follow at the Roselawn Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Afterwards, a luncheon for the family will be served at Painters Chapel UMC. Friends may call at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, March 9 where Athens Chapter #33, Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m.
