Brooks of Springfield, who died Jan. 18 of heart failure and diabetes. He was 72. He was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Lackamus (sic), Wash., to Wade and Lena Toler Brooks. He married Christ Price on Nov. 26, 1951, in Coquille. He lived in this area for 29 years and in Humboldt County, Calif., for 15 years. Brooks served in the Army, A log truck driver for about 25 years, he hauled off-highway loads of Sequoia redwoods. H elater moved to Oregon and drove for Lou Surcamp and Rosboro Lumber until he retired in 1984. After his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, especially making doll cradles the he sold at craft fairs. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and bow hunting. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Donald of Valley, Wash., and Kenneth of Sitka, Alaska; a daughter, Pamela Brooks of Springfield; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Today's service will be at 10 a.m. at Buell Chapel in Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association.
