His father courted and wed a girl, Sarah Price of Jackson County, AL and apparently lived there for some time as his two sons were born there, then they returned to Warren County, TN where they grew up. They were living there in 1850, but shortly thereafter, John Douglas Tate and several others moved to Missouri. He married Mary E.
