Obituary for Margaret Christian.
Source: Tarkio Avalanche. 7 Nov. 1941. p.1, col.5.
Funeral services will be conducted for Miss Margaret Christian, 80, this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Federated Church by Dr. J. A. Thompson and the Rev. John Currie. Miss Christian died Tuesday evening at the Sisters' Hospital in St. Joseph after a lingering illness.
Margaret May Christian, oldest daughter of James and Mary Ann Christian, pioneer settlers in Atchison County, was born on the home farm northwest of Tarkio, September 4, 1861. She attended school at Rock Port after completing the course offered in the rural school near home. She united with the Presbyterian Church in Tarkio at an early age and remained in its membership all her life.
She spent all of her life in and near Tarkio. After the death of her mother, she lived with relatives and friends, making a home for some of these and always making herself useful wherever she was.
There were six children in the Christian family, all of whom reached maturity. Columbus, Thomas and Sophia preceeded their sister in death. Creed of Tarkio and Jesse of Pine River, Minn. survive her. A sister-in-law, Mrs. Nellie Christian, lives with her daughter, Mrs. Kyle Peterson in Kahoka. A number of nephews and nieces living in various parts of the United States also survive.
