Simon must have been successful in business for after twenty years the possessions of his wife Elizabeth showed many comforts and even luxuries. Elizabeth survived him by 25 years. Late in 1669, Elizabeth became very ill, perhaps suddenly so as she dictated a will in the presence of three of her children "a day or two before she dyed." The will failed of her signature, so the three children stated her wishes as to what their mother's stated wishes had been.
The following is the will of Elizabeth Stacy from Essex Country Probate Record #26069.
"The words of Elizabeth Stace upon her death beads, her laste Will. Having and enjoying her understanding and memory is as follows:
First ? I give my soule into the hands of Jesus Christ, my blessed Redeemer & my body to be decently buried in Ipswich Burying Place & for my outward estate, first I give my son Simon, a bullock for the buryall of me, - to my sonne Thomas Stace a bullock for the buryall of me, - to my sonne Thomas Stace a greatte Bible & damask napkins, - to my dater Sarath Busswell a velvette cushen, - to my dauter Susannah Ffrench two payers of gloves all these having reserved their poreshand before, - Then I give to my dauter Meors a bead and a blanket & coverlidde & one of my wearing cootes & to my dauter Ane in consideration of her staying with me in my owld agge & being helpful to me, for that I give to her two cowes and all my other household stuffe. Mary Meors having reseyed a portion allsoe before.
This we testify to be the last wills of Elizabeth Stase, widow of Ipswich, of the county of Essex as we received them from her owne mouth a day or two before she dyed.
Witness Simon Stace Sarah Stace Anne Stace Ipswich Mar. 29, 1670"
This was presented to the court at Ipswich on the date, and the court allowed it but declared it was no will as no executor was named in it. The court appointed Simon Stacy as an executor and ordered him to bring in an inventory, which he did.
