  Notes	She was named by Dr. James D. Whiteaker of KY who visited the week of her birth. Zeralda was the name of his wife. She and her husband were first cousins. By all accounts Mertie was colorful, petite and pretty. After her husband's death, Mertie lived in house provided for her by her father, Dock. Was foster mother to two Altizer boys, Curtis and Ulysses, Tom's grandsons. (children of Nannie Whitaker and Grover Altizer.) Ulysses inherited everything after her death including the land where the cemetery was located.
