Speculation is that he was born out of wedlock (1847) and his father's name was WINGLER. His mother married a DANCY and he took his name. Upon the death of his real father (WINGLER) he inherited some land in Kingfisher Co., OK and he moved to OK to claim it.( somewhere between 1903-1907)

Also in household are his wife Sarah M. age 45 and children Catherine Dancy, age 21; Sarah E. Dancy age 16, John W. Dancy, age 13; Martha Dancy, age 12; July Ann Dancy, age 9; Dora B. Dancy, age 8; George Dancy age 6, and Henry F. Dancy, age 3.

Date of Enlistment: 11 Mar 1863. Date of Discharge: 2 Aug 1865. Length of Service 2 years 4 months 21 days.

1900 Census Greenbrier Co. WV. household 15. listed as James M. Dancy. He is 54 years old, married 34 years.

Greenbrier Co. WV Marriage Registry 1903, page 155 line 26, has M. Wingler, age 50 marrying B. A. Nicely, age 17. Place of birth: Wilkes Co. NC, and Birdie was born in Greenbrier Co. His first wife Sarah had died 7 Feb 1903.

He died in 1907, and is buried there under the name J.M. Wingler.

I am searching for parentage information on James Marion Dancy Wingler. He was born ca 1846,47 in Ashe Co NC, probably an illegimate child. . It is supposed that he was raised by a Dancy, but his father was actually a Wingler, but I have no proof of this. Another supposition is that his mother was a Dancy, or his mother was a Wingler and his real father a Dancy. Any one with any information, it would be greatly appreciated. I haven't had any luck at finding James on the 1850 Ashe Co census, but I don't know who he might have been living with.

I am trying to determine the parentage of James Marion Dancy (Wingler). He was born in NC, supposedly Ashe Co, or possibly Wilkes, died in Greenbrier Co WV and is buried under the name JM Wingler, next to his first wife of the name Sarah Emaline(Garret)(Nelson)Dancy. His children were all named Dancy. He is believed to have been my g-g-grandfather, though some amount of secrecy seems to surround him, I can't find anything that might point to his parents or why he moved to WV. My g-grandfather, Frank Dancy left home at 17, and never went back, and from all accounts never mentioned his family, so Frank's living son's have no idea who their grandparents or great grandparents were. I appreciate any help I might recieve.
