    Notes:

    He was first son of the first Virginia Hamman ancestor. Had 17 children. Lived in Montgomery Co. until 1830. After 1830 returned to Catawba Valley in Botetourt Co. Purchased Poage farm, which fronts Tinker Knob. In 1919 was owned by Rhodes Brothers. Received lands in East St. Louis, IL because of military service in the War of 1812. He served in Norfolk, VA during the spring and summer of 1814. Son, Griffin lived on these lands. John was member of Botetourt county library association. When he died, Dr. J. Hoffman Waugh of Baltimore Conference said John Hamman was the best informed man in Methodist Church in the Old Fincastle circuit.
