Greenbrier Co. WV Marriage Register, 1895, p.125, line 124. He is listed as 18 years old, born in McDowell Co. WV.

1900 Census Nicholas Co.WV, Henry is renting a farm. He is 22 years old and has been married 4 years.

In household 247 is his wife Alley, age 27, and his niece July Ann Coleman, age 3, and William Nelson, age 17. July (Julie) Coleman is likely the daughter of Mary Coleman, age 26, listed in the household of her parents James and Sarah Dancy in Greenbrier Co. WV 1900 census. Mary indicates she has 4 living children, but none of them are with her. William Nelson's mother was born in NC, so he could be the son of Amanda, Mary, or Margaret, Catherine or Sarah Emeline Nelson. In the 1880 Census for McDowell Co. WV, Catherine and Sarah used the surname Dancy, but this was not their real father's name. So it is possible they began to use the last name of Nelson as did their older sisters.

1910 Census, Greenbrier Co. WV, household 142, he is a farmer age 32, married for 14 years, no children. With him are his wife Allie, age 37, and his niece Julia Coleman, age 13, and nephew William Dancy, age 10. William is the son of George Dancy and Alice Hamrick. George and his second wife live just 2 farms down from Henry. Julia must be the daughter of Mary Coleman listed in the 1900 census with her parents James and Sarah Dancy. She has 4 living children, but they are not living with her.

Nicholas Co. WV Marriage Register, 1911, page 212, Henry F. Dancy age 28, born in McDowell Co. WV license to wed 4 Apr. 1911. Married 12 April 1911 by S. L. Walker.

Register of deaths, Lewis Co. WV, p. 39 line 3, lists Henry F. Dancy, married, a coal miner dying at the State Hospital on 20 Sep 1934 of melacholia and attempted suicide by cutting his throat, age 56.

Speculation is that he was born out of wedlock (1847) and his father's name was WINGLER. His mother married a DANCY and he took his name. Upon the death of his real father (WINGLER) he inherited some land in Kingfisher Co., OK and he moved to OK to claim it.( somewhere between 1903-1907)

1900 Census Greenbrier Co. WV. household 15. listed as James M. Dancy. He is 54 years old, married 34 years.

Greenbrier Co. WV Marriage Registry 1903, page 155 line 26, has M. Wingler, age 50 marrying B. A. Nicely, age 17. Place of birth: Wilkes Co. NC, and Birdie was born in Greenbrier Co. His first wife Sarah had died 7 Feb 1903.

He died in 1907, and is buried there under the name J.M. Wingler.

I am searching for parentage information on James Marion Dancy Wingler. He was born ca 1846,47 in Ashe Co NC, probably an illegimate child. . It is supposed that he was raised by a Dancy, but his father was actually a Wingler, but I have no proof of this. Another supposition is that his mother was a Dancy, or his mother was a Wingler and his real father a Dancy. Any one with any information, it would be greatly appreciated. I haven't had any luck at finding James on the 1850 Ashe Co census, but I don't know who he might have been living with.

I am trying to determine the parentage of James Marion Dancy (Wingler). He was born in NC, supposedly Ashe Co, or possibly Wilkes, died in Greenbrier Co WV and is buried under the name JM Wingler, next to his first wife of the name Sarah Emaline(Garret)(Nelson)Dancy. His children were all named Dancy. He is believed to have been my g-g-grandfather, though some amount of secrecy seems to surround him, I can't find anything that might point to his parents or why he moved to WV. My g-grandfather, Frank Dancy left home at 17, and never went back, and from all accounts never mentioned his family, so Frank's living son's have no idea who their grandparents or great grandparents were. I appreciate any help I might recieve.

James married Sarah Emeline GARRETT. Sarah was born Jun 1833, Virginia; died 7 Feb 1903, Greenbrier Co. WV; was buried 8 Feb 1903, McMillion Chapel, Greenbrier Co. WV. [Group Sheet]

Greenbrier WV Death Register, 1903, p. 141, Sarah Dancy, died Feb 8, 1903, born in Virginia, cause of death heart troube, age 70, parents Abe and F. Garrett, husband J. M. Dancy.

A second Greenbrier WV Death Register for 1903, date of report Feb 10, 1903 puts her death on Feb. 7, 1903, cause of death heart failure, age 76, burial at McMillion Chapel Cemetery.
