"The cabin that was built by Hardyman Duke is still standing, a family of Walkers live in the house. The house is located in the Syrene community located near Lower Peach, Tree. I was amazed at the craftsmanship that went into the home. The logs were joined with wooden pegs. This dwelling is probably the oldest in this county." Kay Duke Boutwell aboutwell@yahoo.com

Message from Vernon Duke on genealogy.com 14 Oct. 1999 on the Duke Family Forum:
"They [Hardyman Duke and Sally Jordan] were married March 25, 1805 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. He came to Clark County, Alabama in 1809 and settled in the James Creek area around 1811. He had seven sons-Thomas, William, James Henry (my ancestor),John, Charles, Michael, and Welcome Parks. He had a least one daughter-Emily Jane. The last record of Hardyman was the 1830 census. I assume he died between 1830 and 1840. There is some indication he died in 1839 in Clark County. But, I do not know where in the County he is buried."
