[Note: it looks like the census taker may have reversed the ages of the two children John and James. This family (household no. 24) is living next door to Mathias and Ellen Christian. George and Nancy Bandy Christian live in household no. 21. It is possible George Christian and Mary Baldwin never married. On both his marriage certificate John Chat did not give his father's name. It is on his death certificate that Mary's surname is provided.]

Notes:

Their two offspring, James and Chat, provide their mother's name as Mary Baldwin on their marriage certificates, but do not give their father's name. It could be Mary did not marry George, but her sons used the Christian name, and she used it on the 1880 census. Or George and Mary were married and divorced with the 2 sons not recognizing their father. This requires more research to discover what actually happened.
