OBITUARY

Clinch Valley New; 21 May 1975

Mrs. Carrie Burress, 82, of Berwind, WV. formerly of Jewell Ridge, died May 12 in a Bellville, OH, nursing home after a long illness. She was a daughter of the late John Henry and Mint Davidson Altizer. She had made her home in Berwind for the past 10 years and was a member of the Berwind United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Albert Crockett, her second husband, H.P. Burress, one son, John S. Crockett, and one daughter, Gertie Mae Crockett.

Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Artie Somoskey of New Orleans, LA, Mrs. Frances Brown of Tazewell, Mrs. Goldie Vandyke of Alexandria, Mrs. Agnes Barrett of Washington, DC, Mrs. Jetty Ward of Lexington OH; one sister, Mrs. Edna Wingo of Cedar Bluff; five brothers, Bill Altizer of Cedar Bluff, Louie Altizer of Centerburg, OH, Daniel Altizer of Squire, WV. Motton Altizer of Chilhowie, George Altizer of Greenbrier County WV; 24 grandchildren, and several great grand children.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at Hurst Scott Funeral Home with Rev. Elmer DeHart officiating; Burial followed in the Crockett Cemetery in the Bearwallow Section of Jewell Ridge. Pallbearers: Frank Crockett, Virle Crockett, Keith Crockett, Robert Crockett, Emory Somoskey, Delmar Somoskey, Raymond Blankenship and Brad Matney.
