OBITUARY

To every thing there is a season, time to live, and a time to die. Earl Meade's time to live came to an end at his residence in Kingsport, TN on June 10, 2008 at age 89.

Earl was born, and grew up, in Scott County, Virginia. He was the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Culbertson Meade. He moved to Kingsport after meeting and marrying the love of his life, Emma Lou Meade. Earl and Emma Lou were married for 61 years and had two children, Evan Meade who is a lawyer in Johnson City, Tennessee and Cheryl Meade Oliver who resides in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Earl was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kingsport, the Gate City, Virginia Catlett Masonic Lodge, No. 35, F & A, the Jericho Shriners and the Moose Lodge. He was employed at Eastman Kodak in Kingsport, Tennessee for 40 years. He co-founded and operated Nu-Way Dry Cleaners in Gate City, Virginia. He was also a contributor to the Scott County, Virginia weekly newspaper for a number of years.

Earl was an extraordinary individual in many ways. He loved talking to and meeting people from all walks of life and never knew a stranger. He was actively involved in the lives of his grandchildren. He was a supporter of Kingsport's baseball team for over 50 years and rarely missed a home game. He was active in State and local politics and, until his health prevented it, worked in all elections as a judge for the Republican Party for over 40 years. Earl had a life long love of photography, traveling and gardening. In his 80's, he learned to use a computer and became an avid Internet surfer and e-mailer. Earl lived a full life with a loving family, adoring relatives and many friends. He had the ability to give of himself to others, to enjoy spending time with his extended family including cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and deeply loved his wife and children, all of which weave the fabric of a life well lived.

He is survived by his loving wife, Emma Lou Meade, his son, Evan Meade, his daughter, Cheryl Oliver Meade and four grandchildren, Evan ?Mac" Meade, who is a lawyer in Johnson City, Sam Oliver, Clancy Oliver, Chelsea Oliver, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers and sisters, John Meade, Siebert ?Blacky' Meade, Buford Meade, Clancy Meade, Zelma Meade Godsey, and Janelle Meade Jester.

Death is the starlit strip between the companionship of yesterday and the reunion of tomorrow . The Meade family takes comfort in the knowledge of the reunion of tomorrow.

The family will receive friends from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. Wednesday, June 12th 2008 in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church in Kingsport, Tennessee. Masonic Services will follow at 7:00 P.M. with Funeral services thereafter. Graveside services will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 13th 2008.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Baraca/Johnson Sunday school class of the First Baptist Church, Chancellor G. Richard Johnson and Dr. David Freemon .

The family requests those who knew Earl put in writing stories about or memories of him to be placed in a book about his life.
