    Walter Herman Heslep Jr., 86, of Fairfield, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at his home.

    He was born May 28, 1921, in Fairfield, a son of the late Herman Heslep and Forrest Heslep. He owned and operated a plumbing and heating business, from which he retired in 2003. In his retire­ment, he continued to have a septic business. He served with the 29th Infantry and 540th Corp of Engineers in World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of Concord Church of the Brethren, and served as a deacon, trustee, and member of the finance board and cemetery committee. He was pre­ceded in death by his first wife, Frances Figgers Heslep.

    He is survived by his second wife, Peggy Jennings Heslep; a son, Wayne Heslep of Lexington; a daughter, Evelyn Heslep of Lexington; two stepsons, Bobby Jennings of Fairfield, and Mike Jennings of Fairfield; five step­grandchildren and two step-great­grandchildren.

    The funeral was conducted Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Harrison Funeral Home chapel, by Rick Labate and the Rev. James Smals. Memorial contributions may be made to the Concord Church Pavilion Fund, in care of Carol Hipes, 5277 Lee-Jackson Highway, Greenville, VA 24440, or Fairfield First Aid, 5885 N. Lee Highway, Fairfield, VA 24435.
