OBITUARY

Donald E. Ransom, 63, of 205 Foxhill Place, died at 7:15 am Monday, Dec. 14, 1992, at his residence. He was born on April 11, 1929 in Jackson, Mich., a son of the late Dana June and Christine Leonard Harrington Ransom.

Before retirement he was employed by the Museum of American Frontier Culture. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and a past deacon of Linden Heights Baptist Church. He was a member of Staunton Masonic Lodge No 13 AF&AM and also of the Lynchburg Scottish Rite Bodies, the Consistory ACCA Temple of Richmond and Chapter No. 78, Order of the Eastern Star. He was an Army Air Force and Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific and the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sharon Fansley Kenney Ransom, four daughters; Ms. Cheri Ann Ransom of Waynesboro, Mrs. Susan Leonors Morris of Fresno, Calif., Miss Janet Lynn Ransom of Raleigh, NC and Ms Lois Kay Clatterbaugh of Las Vegas, New.; two stepchildren, Mrs. Helen Kenney Riddle of Stuarts Draft and John Andrew Kennedy of Waynesboro; three brothers, Harry Eugene Ransom of Brentwood, Tenn., Robert Raymond Ransom of St. Peters, MO., and Kenneth Alan Ransom of Joplin, Mo.; two sisters, Mrs. Doris Eileen Hawkins of Jackson, Mich., and Mrs. Mary Lou Kuhn of Rives Junction, Mich.; and eight grandchildren, Nancy Marion, Chad Clatterbaugh, Veronica Riddle, Scottie Riddle II, John David Kenney, Andrew Nathan Kenney, Armanda Morris and Jefrey Morris.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Mary Anne Gaylor Ransom, on July 22, 1981 and a son, Byron Tate Ransom on Sept. 26, 1973.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Temple D. Myers. Burial will follow in Greenville Baptist Church Cemetery, with rites by Staunton Masonic Lodge No. 13 AF&AM and military honors will be conducted by Bolling United States Air Force of Washington, DC. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Staunton Masonic Lodge No. 13 AF&AM and Chapter No. 78, Order of the Eastern Star.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 this evening in the Henry Funeral Home. It is suggested that those desiring may make memorial donations to the Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 224 Taylor St., Staunton, VA 24401.

Staunton Leader; 24 July 1981

Mrs. Mary Anne (Gaylor) Ransom, 45, wife of Donald E. Ransom of Rt. 1, Stuarts Draft, died at 8:27 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 1981, in Waynesboro Community Hospital. She had been in declining health for several years. She was born March 10, 1936, on Rt. 5, Lexington, daughter of Mrs. Ruby Nicely Gaylor and the late Tate Gaylor.

She had retired from Genesco-LGreif. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and Lee Manor Extension Homemakers Club.

In addition to her husband and mother, survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Lois Clatterbaugh of Colorado Spring, Colo., Miss Janet Ransom of Bluefield, Mrs. Cheri Marion of San Diego, Calif., and Miss Susan Ransom at home, one grand-daughter, Nancy Marion, one grandson, Chad Clatterbaugh, three sisters, Mrs. Betty Allums of Cape Charles, Mrs. Eleanor Guest of Baltimore and Mrs. Phyllis Neal of Panama City, Fla; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Bryon T. Ransom, in 1973; and her father died in 1978.

A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Baptist Church by the Revs. Temple D. Myers and Julie Taylor. Burial will be in Greenville Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Calvin Hewitt, G. Donald Crosier, Robert E. Proffitt, bill Koiner, Sam Fitzgerald, John Rohr and H. A. Senger. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Brotherhood Sunday School Class of Memorial Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at Henry Funeral Home. tt is suggested that those desiring may make donations to the Special Missions Fund of Memorial Baptist Church, 224 Taylor St., Staunton, VA
