Irene Elsie Rowe Bartley, 89, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004 at Augusta Medical Center. She was born Nov. 11, 1914, at Lofton, to Amos and Sadie Nicely Rowe.

She retired from the former L. Greif Companies (Genesco.)

Mrs. Bartley was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Allen Bartley Sr.; a daughter, Barbara B. Fair; four brothers; and a sister. Survivors include two sons, Frank L. Bartley Jr. of Fort Defiance and Neil V. Bartley of Waynesboro, and two sisters, Beatrice Moyers of Fairfax and Edith Anderson of Raphine.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Oak Lawn Mausoleums and Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Henry Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Rockbridge County News; 18 Mar 1937

Joseph Nathan Nicely died at his home on Upper Buffalo on Sunday the 14th in his 82nd year. He leaves to mourn his loss 5 brothers, John, James, Charles, William and Douglas Nicely; 3 sisters Mrs. Mary Morris, Mrs. Sallie Clark and Mrs. Charles Hickman. He leaves also 6 sons, Charles, Lee, Sidney, Guy, Nathan and Alva Nicely and one daughter Mrs. Sadie Rowe of Greenville, Va. There are also 35 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. His funeral was held in the Oxford church on Monday at 3 p.m. ....He was laid to rest beside his wife who died 16 years ago. A large crowd gathered to pay their respects to a good neighbor and a true friend.
