Thelma(Horton)Osborn,51,of Kents Ridge section of Richlands,Va.died in a Richlands hospital.She was born in Raven,VA.and was the daughter of the Rev.Grat and Chorilda Ann(Whited)Horton.

She was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area, she was a 1955 graduate of Richlands High School and was a monitor of Richlands Tabernacle Christian Academy. She was a member and Sunday school teacher at Richlands Tabernacle.

Survivors are her husband Rev. Robert Osborn, three daughters Mrs. Larry(Beth)Skinner, Mrs. Michael (Rebecca) Harmon and Debra Osborn; four sisters Mrs. Rufus(Naomi)Ray, Mrs. Dan(Patricia)Jennelle, Mrs. Junior(Mozelle) Cordle and Mrs. Danny(Sharon)Roberts;six brothers--Don Horton, Christopher "MAC" Horton, Rev. James Horton, Rev.Ralph Horton, Rev.David Horton and Rev. Phillip Horton.

OBITUARY

Chorilda Ann (Whited)Horton,80,of Richlands,Va.,died in a Bristol Tenn. hospital.She was born in Russell County,Va.and was the daughter of the late Preston Fipps and Eunice England(Elkins)Whited.

She had made her home in the Richlands area for her entire life and had faithfully served as the pastor's wife for 40 years at the Richlands Tabernacle.She was preceded in death by one daughter Thelma Osborn, two brothers Major Whited and Vernie Whited, three sisters Elease Keen, Blanch Whited and Beatrice Whited.

Survivors are her husband the Rev. Grat Horton, four daughters Mozell Cordle, Naomi Ray, Patricia Jenelle and Sharon Roberts; six sons Donald Horton, Rev. Ralph S.Horton, Christopher (Mack)Horton,Rev.David S. Horton, Rev. James D. Horton and Rev. Phillip Horton; and two sisters Grace Duncan and Vera Chappell.

PARENTS

Thomas' death certificate is the only one of his three siblings born out of wedlock that give the name of Thomas Gillespie as the father. Alifair Chambers Christian's death certificate gave Chapman Elswick as her father, Elbert Wade Chambers had no names for his parents. For Alifair's descendants, her real father's name was not known, but evidently for the children of Emmeline and Chapman Elswick, the name was known but not talked about outside the family. John McClintock, Jr. told me what the family stories were, but there was no confirmation until Thomas D. Chamber's death certificate.

Notes:

Her father Chapp Osborne was a guard at the Raven Red Ash Coal Comp and in 1920 he was appointed a Tazewell Co deputy. He was killed in a gun battle near Richlands on 22 March 1927. It is said that he shot 15 men, eight of whom died.
