DORAN, Va. Mrs. Eunice Wade Baldwin, 102, of Doran, left for her heavenly home on Monday, May 22, 2006 from Tazewell Community Hospital.

She was born Oct. 14, 1903 in Tazewell County, Va., to the late Walter and Molly Wade. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She devoted her entire life as a homemaker and mother to her 11 children. She was faithful to her church, her faith in God and her family. She was loved by all who knew her.

Mrs. Baldwin was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Watts Baldwin; one daughter, Ola Gay Arnold; four sons, Bane, D.C., Norman and Shirl Baldwin; two brothers, Rufus "Peach" Wade and Carl Wade; two sisters, Edith Smith and Stella Gillespie; one granddaughter, Patty Jean Baldwin; and one great-granddaughter, Kimberly Diane Baldwin.

She is survived by three daughters, Inez Kimbrell, widow of the late Don Kimbrell of Raven, Va., Ruth Meadows and husband Ed of Fredericktown, Ohio, and Wanda Griffith and husband Russell of Richlands, Va.; three sons, Ted Baldwin and wife Pansy of Cedar Bluff, Va., Sherman Baldwin of Tazewell, Va., and Marty Baldwin of Doran; two sisters, Gladys Boyd of Richlands and Vinnie Newberry of Newport News, Va. Also, surviving are 27 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 18 great, great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great, great nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends.

Homegoing celebration will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2006 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with the Rev. Eddie Baldwin, the Rev. Danny Bostic and the Rev. Clarence Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in the Tom Chambers Cemetery at Shortt Gap, Va. Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends anytime at the home of Inez Kimbrell, 225 Raven Circle, Raven, Virginia and today, May 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff.

PARENTS

Thomas' death certificate is the only one of his three siblings born out of wedlock that give the name of Thomas Gillespie as the father. Alifair Chambers Christian's death certificate gave Chapman Elswick as her father, Elbert Wade Chambers had no names for his parents. For Alifair's descendants, her real father's name was not known, but evidently for the children of Emmeline and Chapman Elswick, the name was known but not talked about outside the family. John McClintock, Jr. told me what the family stories were, but there was no confirmation until Thomas D. Chamber's death certificate.

Notes:

Her father Chapp Osborne was a guard at the Raven Red Ash Coal Comp and in 1920 he was appointed a Tazewell Co deputy. He was killed in a gun battle near Richlands on 22 March 1927. It is said that he shot 15 men, eight of whom died.
