During Reconstruction, cattle were slaughtered by thieves. When he tried to stop them, they threw rocks at him. He ran to a neighbor's house and was saved. His son assumed Thomas' debts. Family lore gives the name as George or Paschal, but Thomas Johnson's death record gives the name of Henry. He lived on land in Fluvanna Co. now owned and occupied by Dallas Johnson, a descendant.
Supposedly the first Johnson settlers lived on Bremo plantation, later granted to the Cocke family by George III.
