OBITUARY

NORTHPORT Charles Ellis Shirley, age 87, of Northport, died May 22, 2009, at the VA Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Paul Peeples and David Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Iola Gray, Mary Lee Moore, Lucille Sutton, and Lonya Mae Doyle, and his brother, Calvin Shirley.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Shirley; his sons, Charles Bradley Shirley and Larry Franklin Shirley; his sister, Jane Quattlebaum; his grandchildren, Laney Shirley, Joe Shirley, Andy Shirley, and Katy Shirley; and his great-grandchildren, Brylan and Blason Shirley.

Mr. Shirley retired in 1983 from BF Goodrich after 37 years in production. He served in the Army 227th AAA Searchlight Battalion in World War II.

Pallbearers will be Coty Sanford, Martin Hagler, Jeff Hagler, Kenny Nelson, Sammy Nelson, and Gary Falls.

Honorary pallbearers are Henry and Dot Goodman, Carly and Ruth Snider, Bobby and Elizabeth Smelley, and members and friends of Union Chapel United Methodist Church.
