    Fred W. Slagle

    MARION - Fred W. Slagle, 79, died Thursday, May 9, 2002. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Marion VFW Post 4667. Mr. Slagle was retired from Brunswick Corp. after 35 years of service. He was an avid golfer and Braves fan.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley and Cora Mae Hawks Slagle; one sister, Lillian Slagle Murray; two brothers-in-law, Thomas Phillips and Archie Chaffins.

    He is survived by his wife, Delba Lawson Slagle of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Greg Jones of Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, Gayle and Lori Slagle of Johnson City; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Frances Chaffins of Richmond and Joan and Jr. Tucker of Marion; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence and Beulah Slagle and Hugh and Mary Slagle, all of Marion; one aunt, Stella Broeskie; three grandchildren, Ashley Jones, Keith Jones and Haley Slagle; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Sherman and Nancy Lawson, Jerry and Happy Morris and Josephine Lawson; and special friend, Rev. Jim Lundy.

    Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 11, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Buddy Miller and Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by Marion VFW Post 4667.

    The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service is serving the Slagle family.
