    Notes:

buried in the Worley Cemetery, Washington Co. VA. near her husband. The cemetery is on a high hill overlooking the Holston River.  It's a very steep climb about 1/2 mile from the Snodgrass/Worley homestead.

Ellen's Whitaker grandparents gave her three slaves as a wedding gift. Ellen let them go at the end of the Civil War, but they stayed on for many years.  This information is in a letter dated February 10, 1972 from Ellen's granddaughter, Floy Callahan Henderson to her granddaughter, Joye Boardman.

Ellen inherited the Snodgrass family homestead located on the River Road across from Tumbling Creek, Virginia.  It is on the south side of the River and is reached by a swinging bridge or by fording the river.  The original house was a low structure with an upstairs added.  There was an additional building used for the kitchen.  Joye Boardman has been told the house was built for an Indian Agent who lived on the Snodgrass property.  Part of the house still stands and has been included in a barn built by Tommy Jennings Worley in recent years. Tommy inherited the farm from his father, Jennings Worley.

David and Ellen lived on the Morgan Place Farm in Saltville from 1890 to 1895.  At that time they returned to the Holston, where David died December 26, 1900 at the age of 70 years.  He is buried in the Worley Cemetery and has a good sized stone.
