    OBITUARY

    Graveside services for Opal Hinson, 78, of Lubbock will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park with Mike Pryor officiating. She died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002.

    She was born June 26, 1923, in Lindsey, Okla., and married Webb Hinson in 1949 in Corrales, N.M. He died June 3, 1983. She was a homemaker and attended Trinity Church.

    Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Pickelsimer of McKinney; two sisters, Catherine Byar of Amarillo and Helen Dotson of Hurrican Mills, Tenn.; a brother, John Wilson Tate of Texarkana; and two grandchildren.

    Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home of Lubbock.

    He was a Corporal in Company H. of the 35th Infantry in the confederate Army and served during the Civil War. He was wounded in the wrist and side during the battle of Shiloh. At the time of his second marriage he was rather an old man, and it was said that the only reason the young lady married him was that he was getting a pension and she wanted the money. After a while, Hattie S. Tate, his daughter and my grandmother brought him home to her own house and cared for him until his death in 1908.
