born in a log cabin. Joye Boardman I suspects this was the home of Fullen's grandfather, Samuel Sandefur who lived in Rich Valley.

In the 1930's Floy & Fullen moved to West Virginia where he worked as a blacksmith for the mines. Their children were born in McDowell County, WV.  Fullen's father became ill and ask them to return to the farm and, of course being the eldest son,  they moved back to Poor Valley. Fullen was very good with horses and a little afraid of an automobile.  One story told about him; he said "When you tell a horse to halt it does, the car just keeps going." Fullen had been in 2 serious car accidents which explains his fear of the automobile.

At age 37, Margaret married her brother-in-law, William Nelson, 42 years old at time of marriage. William's first wife was Joseph Callahan's sister, Margaret Callahan and they had three children. The Callahan name is spelled in early records as both Callahan and Callahan. Margaret Worley was in mourning for all of her life to the extent she wore only dark colors.  A younger sister had drowned and at that time Margaret went into mourning. She lived on the Lee Highway and as a widow, raised her children by working as a housekeeper for the McKinnley Family in Emory, VA.

1920 WASHINGTON CO. VA Census states: Maggie Worley Callahan Nelson states her father, David Worley, was born in Illinois.

Family tradition says this baby is buried beside Joseph Callahan at Old Glade Cemetery, Washington Co. VA. This is probably the case as two graves were bought and Margaret is buried in the New Part of the Cemetery.

    Notes:

buried in the Worley Cemetery, Washington Co. VA. near her husband. The cemetery is on a high hill overlooking the Holston River.  It's a very steep climb about 1/2 mile from the Snodgrass/Worley homestead.

Ellen's Whitaker grandparents gave her three slaves as a wedding gift. Ellen let them go at the end of the Civil War, but they stayed on for many years.  This information is in a letter dated February 10, 1972 from Ellen's granddaughter, Floy Callahan Henderson to her granddaughter, Joye Boardman.

Ellen inherited the Snodgrass family homestead located on the River Road across from Tumbling Creek, Virginia.  It is on the south side of the River and is reached by a swinging bridge or by fording the river.  The original house was a low structure with an upstairs added.  There was an additional building used for the kitchen.  Joye Boardman has been told the house was built for an Indian Agent who lived on the Snodgrass property.  Part of the house still stands and has been included in a barn built by Tommy Jennings Worley in recent years. Tommy inherited the farm from his father, Jennings Worley.

David and Ellen lived on the Morgan Place Farm in Saltville from 1890 to 1895.  At that time they returned to the Holston, where David died December 26, 1900 at the age of 70 years.  He is buried in the Worley Cemetery and has a good sized stone.
