He is said to be a minister and was living at home in 1850. In the Grundy County, TN Federal Census of 1860 he was married to Louzetta M. Colston. She lived to be 96, 11 months and 5 days old. They lived next door to his father, Davidson Tate in Grundy County, TN.

Born In Big Moccasin, a spur of Clinch Mountain near the Holston River, near Lebanon, Russell County, VA. The son of Major and Ruth Davidson Tate. He married Dorcas Myers who, along with her parents was born in KY. Davidson came to TN with his parents when very young. In 1830 the family appeared with five children, some must have been working for them. They were not in Grundy County in 1840, but were there through 1880. On December 22, 1838, Davidson Tate purchased land, tools and slaves in Dekalb County, AL from Lewis D. Hall.

Robert Tate and Thomas L. Swan, CC. The above transferred to J. B. McComack. Isaac Hill, DS. July 2, 1837. Sent on July 4, 1837 by mail.
