    Born In Big Moccasin, a spur of Clinch Mountain near the Holston River, near Lebanon, Russell County, VA. The son of Major and Ruth Davidson Tate. He married Dorcas Myers who, along with her parents was born in KY. Davidson came to TN with his parents when very young. In 1830 the family appeared with five children, some must have been working for them. They were not in Grundy County in 1840, but were there through 1880. On December 22, 1838, Davidson Tate purchased land, tools and slaves in Dekalb County, AL from Lewis D. Hall.

Surveyed May 29, 1837 for Davidson Tate, 5000 acres by entry dated May 15, 1837, No 4443 on waters of collins River, North side of Lick Creek, crossed seveal branches of the middle fork of Collins River, waters of Clifty Creek, platting and 62 1/2 acres of older title. Robert Tate and Thomas L. Swan, CC. The above transferred to J. B. McComack. Isaac Hill, DS. July 2, 1837. Sent on July 4, 1837 by mail.
