CHAPTER XXI

John Stafford, of Tazewell, settled at the mouth of Lick Creek. Just at what time he settled there or who he married is not known. He had three sons and several daughters. His sons were John, who married a daughter of Isaac Spratt, and settled at the mouth of Gilbert; Compton, who married a daughter of Isaac Brewer, and settled at the mouth of Breeding, and Fleming, who married a daughter of Frank Evans, and went to Mercer County. Of his daughters, Sarah married Andrew Varney, and Phoebe married Smith Trent.

Notes:

He moved to Wythe County, Virginia after 1795, where he was on tax polls 2 years; then on tax polls Tazewell County, until 1809; and in 1820 on Census, Floyd County, Kentucky.

John married Elizabeth (Betsy) Raemer Bef 1785, Montgomery Co. VA. Elizabeth was born 1761, Montgomery Co. VA; died Mar 1848, Bedford Co. VA. [Group Sheet]

Notes:

There are records of their children found in Maryland records. Isaac & Charity moved to Maryland ca 1755, living in Fredrick County in 1777. He is listed in Capt. Jacob Good's Company. He was in Tazewell County, Virginia in 1806. Isaac's son John also served in the Militia with Isaac. Isaac was not listed on tax polls of Tazewell County after 1817.

Isaac married Charity (Geertje) Heggeman. [Group Sheet]
